Use Balanced mode for a practical mix of readability and size, or Smaller file mode when attachment limits matter more than image detail. Lossless cleanup preserves selectable text and interactive elements, but it may produce little or no reduction because many modern PDFs are already optimized. PaperGrid measures the result and only downloads it when the selected method actually creates a smaller file.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Compress PDF FAQ
How does PaperGrid compress a PDF?
Balanced and Smaller file modes render each page as a JPEG image and rebuild the document. Lossless cleanup rewrites the existing PDF structure without intentionally rasterizing pages.
Will PDF text remain selectable after compression?
Only the lossless cleanup mode is intended to preserve selectable text. Balanced and Smaller file modes turn pages into images, so text will no longer be selectable or searchable.
Why did PaperGrid not download a compressed PDF?
Some PDFs are already efficient. PaperGrid compares output size with the original and stops when the chosen method does not create a smaller file. Try another mode or keep the original.
Is my PDF uploaded for compression?
No. The supported compression methods run in your browser using processing libraries served from PaperGrid.

Does PaperGrid upload my files?

What is the file limit?
PaperGrid accepts supported files up to 100 MB each. Available memory on your browser and device may impose a lower practical limit.
